Charmaine, tell us about your involvement in JUMP CUT?
JUMP CUT is a week long film festival, curated by the youth of Hong Kong. The JUMP CUT committee discusses and decides topics from the movies shown to the booklet design. Each festival has its own unique theme and the JUMP CUT committee can edit/decide what that is. I was the President of JUMP CUT 2014 and it was such a pleasure to have been able to work with so many creative, innovative, and passionate film makers.

Others should definitely join JUMP CUT because it is an amazing opportunity to get to know and learn from peers who are just as passionate about film, and to learn from professionals who work in the industry. You have the chance to explore and create a film festival to show your ideas and to see more of Hong Kong's film culture.

What was your favourite thing about JUMP CUT 2014?
I'd have to say my favourite thing was being able to hear from the teenage film directors. We were able to hear from the actual director of short films and I loved listening to them because it gave us insight on how to take your ideas and make them into a film.

Which film made the greatest impact on you?
I really liked the short film, "Half", and the independent film, "Disconnect". "Half" was an animation that showed how Mr. Eye found Mrs. Eye. It was directed in a very happy, colorful way and I loved how it got the message across even though there were no words. "Disconnect" made a great impact on me because it was incredibly dramatic and thought-provoking. It discussed ideas on social networking, family issues, relationships, and teenage struggles.

Film plays an incredible role in my life, ranging from movies/TV shows I watch for fun, to educational videos and documentaries. I not only love watching films, but I love using films to create story or a piece of art. With film, you have the ability to capture something beautiful or capture emotions, which makes it incredibly interesting and impactful.
